A canyon system located in west Texas. It is within the Palo Duro Canyon State Park. It has been monikered as the Grand Canyon of Texas because of its similarity to the Grand Canyon. We were at Grand Canyon in Arizona and it certainly was similar.
It was an early start driving towards Palo Duro Canyon SP. We felt more comfortable spending the night in Lubbock, Texas. It took us close to two hours before we arrived at the entrance of the state park. The forecast called for a hot day. We arrived early enough that the temperature was still in the comfortable mid 80s.
The grandkids were with us. I had invited the older one to go biking with me. I told her that I would take her trail biking. She was excited. Of course, the younger one was excited too. Each one got their share of biking adventure.
Later, we went exploring the floor of Palo Duro Canyon by driving through the 16-mile paved road. We saw the scenic views, some relics, the canyon walls and desert terrain, and the rock formations. By midday, it was getting too hot to be staying under the sun. We completed the 16-mile loop and headed for the cooler environment of the Panhandle Plains Historical Museum.

[…] A photograph of a relic of the past sitting by the roadside. This was one of the scenes that we saw at Palo Duro Canyon State Park. […]
The canyon looks stunning with those red rocks. I’ll have to keep this state park in mind for when we visit Texas as it seems like something we’d enjoy.
There is another park that I have been yearning to go for the past several years – Big Bend National Park. It is on the southwestern border of Texas with Mexico. They say it is really nice out there.
Thanks for the suggestion! One of my goals is to actually visit every national park in North America someday.
