It was on our way to the Sunken Gardens in St. Petersburg, Florida as we were crossing the Skyway Bridge. The fishing piers beside the bridge caught my attention. I thought that it would make a good vantage point to take photographs of the Skyway Bridge. We did a quick detour the moment we saw the exit.
The fishing piers were part of the old bridge when the new Skyway Bridge was built. It became a Florida State Park and provided salt water anglers with a favorite fishing spot.
The flock of pelicans were perching on the railings of the old bridge. They were looking tired but contented. I saw a few at the footings of the old bridge. They were actively diving into the water and coming up with fish in their mouth. I guess the hungry ones were out trying catch a fish. The ones who already got their fill of fish are perching on the railings and wiling their time away. Maybe.
The end of the fishing pier was indeed a good vantage point for taking photographs of the bridge. The sky was overcast which, I thought, was a good background for the bridge. I started watching the pelicans after taking photographs of the bridge. They seemed to show different characters with their movements. I was imagining them as having animated cartoon character movements! It was fun watching them.
We continued with our road trip to the next destination – the Sunken Gardens in St. Petersburg.

Great captures of the pelicans. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one in person before.
I see them a lot of times. This one was different – it posed for me 😊
