The hotel was better than we expected for our family celebration. Security was strict in checking that we were indeed heading towards the hotel. Bellboys and concierge were attending the driveway. All of them did an excellent job of assisting us. There were a lot of friendly smiles. Soon, we had purple-colored wristbands signifying our status as privileged hotel guest.

An amazing experience for us was the birthday celebration of our granddaughter. We found a church close to downtown Cancun, Inglesia Maria Estrella Del Mar, where we could attend church service. It is family tradition that a birthday celebration should have a special way to highlight it. A way of showing gratitude for all the blessings that we have received along the way. We wanted to keep this tradition alive by showing it to our granddaughter.

The birthday celebration became amazing because of what we saw during the church service. Our granddaughter did not realize it but we saw a diverse group of people in the church. The celebrating priest hailed from northern Australia. The acolytes (people who help during the celebration of the liturgy) were either expatriates or local residents. The churchgoers were vacationers, people like us, who wanted to attend a religious service.

The church itself was pretty amazing with its shoreline view of the Caribbean Sea. A tropical garden is surrounding the pathway leading to the church. The church structure is mostly made of wooden materials. All these added to a very tropical experience.
