We had the chance to witness the traditional way of producing Argan oil. This was at an Argan Oil Cooperative at Agafay Desert.
It was a very satisfying feeling that each day brought a new enriching experience about Morocco. The grand finale of seeing Bahia Palace and Dar El Bacha Palace and Museum that morning were definitely experiences that will last a lifetime.

The afternoon’s activity brought us to Agafay desert for an intended off road quad bike ride and camel ride. However, before that, we dropped by a cooperative that was producing Argan oil in the traditional way. The Agafay desert tour was also helping boost the business of selling Argan oil by local cooperatives.

Hospitality came first. We were invited to sit on hand crafted low wooden stools around a low wooden table. Locally made bread with side dips of locally produced Argan oil, peanut butter, and olive oil were served. There were several groups ahead of us. It made the wait worthy while we experienced the taste of locally made products.

What followed was the demonstration of using a hand cranked stone mill. The nuts were crushed and the unfiltered oil dripped into a shallow bowl. It was laborious process. However, we saw that the local ladies made it less laborious as they sat and chanted while turning the stone mill.

The last part was the presentation of the finished products.

Sounds like a neat experience. Glad to hear it was worth the wait.
