We spent a long weekend at Cancun, Mexico. It was our first time to be in Cancun. What’s a better way to spend it? Stay in one of the famous beach resort. Enjoy its all-inclusive amenities.
A road trip going to Cancun, Mexico was a tempting idea. It is always fun to be doing long drives. Crossing the US-Mexico border though didn’t seem so fun. We were considering the border security problems that has been in the news lately. We opted for an early morning flight that was amazingly on time. The amenities were bare. The flight was comfortable and the price was cheap!

The airport was reminding me of my third-world hometown airport. There were many people lingering in the arrival area. It was quite difficult to distinguish who to deal with legitimately. Once out of the organized chaos, the manicured look of the road looked so soothing and calm.

Our van driver saw me twiddling with my camera. He probably figured out that I was there for photography. Just like most tourists. He was gracious enough to show me a view of a river estuary as well as part of the river delta. The buildings at the background, I believe, starts the stretch of hotels along this strip of island.

I learned that the local administration has made it a point of keeping the locality tourist friendly. The public beach made an initial good impression! It was clean and picturesque! What’s not in the picture – the stench of the public toilet and the sidewalk. Apparently, not everything can be perfect.

This was the view of the beach from the balcony of our ocean-front villa! This was one big surprise on our arrival. The hotel was upgrading us to a villa! We didn’t realize until later on that there was a catch. One of the hotel’s job was identifying potential buyers of vacation hotel packages membership. It wasn’t our first time receiving offers of a similar scheme. We firmly refused to be trapped to 30 years of vacation package payments!

The beachfront was offering a lot of activities for beach bodies. Walkers, sunbathers, waders, swimmers, ball players, and onlookers were everywhere. All were enjoying each moment of the Cancun beach. The huts and cabanas along the beach provided relief from the sun but the temperature was a balmy 85 F. Drinks and food were also available readily.

There were a lot of pelicans along the beach too. The pelicans spent all their time searching for food. It was early morning at the beach and the pelicans were already fishing for their meal.

Just watching the waves break on the beach was not boring at all! It actually had a calm, serene feeling.
A few last photographs were taken on our last day at Cancun, Mexico. The sunrise, though not as spectacular, was enough to make us start hoping for a few more days of stay. We enjoyed watching the sunrise in the morning. The stars were spectacular at night.

We did a lot of activities other than just stay at the beach. The island has several outdoor malls that satisfied the shopping needs. We rode the bus and ventured downtown and market areas of Cancun, Mexico. A friendly taxi driver became our unofficial tourist guide and showed us around. We bought trinkets, souvenirs, and chicharones from the local market.
It was a small part of the beautiful resorts in Mexico that we saw but we totally enjoyed the experience. We plan to be back but we will try a different area to broaden our perspective.
