We went searching for Café du Monde in New Orleans to taste its famous beignet and café au lait. Beignets are square, deep-fried French-style pastries buried under a mountain of powdered sugar. Sounds good already, right? We also wanted to match the pastry with Café du Monde’s equally famous café au lait – coffee made with dark-roasted coffee and chicory root. Sounds even better, right?
What we heard first was the mellow trumpet sound. What we found next was a busker playing a tune for the breakfast crowd of Café du Monde. Quite unexpected, quite delightful to see this scene. In the end, we were part of the Café du Monde breakfast crowd, listening to the trumpet tune, and having our beignet with café au lait.
Random photographs of our travels. Memories found and captured in a photograph.

How was the beignet? I’ve never had one before but it sounds delicious.
Overall, it was good but it was too sweet for us. I guess it was a good match for bitter black coffee.
