Indi is going home to a place she never knew.
She was born as a fourth generation member from the marriage of two extended families. Two extended families that live on opposite sides of the world and bridged together because of migration. She has lived on one side of the world and has yet to meet the other side of the family. This is why Indi is going to her other home.
Going home is always an experience of excitement and apprehension. Home is the place where everything began. Memories were made at home. It is where relationships were forged. It is the place where you feel you belong and will always be no matter where your life takes you.
The initial thought of going home becomes a light bulb that starts the process rolling to the planning stage. Unconsciously, a list comes alive in the mind and becomes the basis of all the possible scenarios of desired activities.
Excitement comes with the thought that one will be back to the place where it all started. The childhood and growing up memories all come rushing back and some form of reminiscing happens. The mixed feeling of remembering the past and wondering if everything has remained the same elevates the feeling of excitement even more.
Apprehension comes with the thought that home is 8000 miles away and on the other side of the world. It is the dread of getting in a plane with multiple stops and flying one leg of the trip continuously for 15 straight hours. Apprehension is the thought of crossing multiple time zones and getting your internal clock all messed up. Apprehension is thinking about how it will all affect Indi.
Three generations of family await her arrival. Three generations await with open arms in welcome and acceptance that a new member of the next generation has come.
The bridge to opposite sides of the world comes through Indi. It is with great hope that Indi will experience the best of both worlds and become a more global person.
