King Mohammed V Mausoleum was our next stop for our tour of Rabat, Morocco. It was a short drive northeast from the Royal Palace and Ahl Fas Mosque.

The mausoleum, sitting on an elevated platform, was on one side of an urban esplanade. Right across was the unfinished remains of an ancient mosque and the Hassan Tower.

There were Horse Guards outside and Honor Guards inside and outside the mausoleum. This honor guard was gracious enough to allow us to take his photograph. The others flatly said no when asked. It was fortunate and important that we did ask before taking their photograph.
Respect was one thing that was asked from everyone before starting the tour. No photographs of people in uniform. A general photograph of a scene is ok but not in front of people’s faces. We thought that this was common respect for people. Most probably some people don’t follow this simple act of respect.
The remains of three members of the royal family were interred in this mausoleum. The following were King Mohammed V, King Hassan ll, and Prince Abdallah.
Viewing the mausoleum and the ancient ruins of a mosque with the Hassan Tower was a short walk around the esplanade. There was one other structure, a museum dedicated to history of the Alaouite Dynasty, that we did not see because it was closed. Visit this site to appreciate the magnificent architectural design of the mausoleum.
