Tower Bridge North Entry

The London Tower Bridge

The London Tower Bridge was the first magnificent structure that was standing right in front of us. We were disembarking from our shuttle van when we came face to face with this iconic bridge. Momentarily, we were scurrying to be on top of the bridge. We wanted to be standing and walking along the bridge. The photograph was documenting our entry from the north side. The bridge connects the population of London residing on the east side of the river Thames. It was our first day in London.

The Tower Bridge is an iconic symbol of London. It stands majestically over the River Thames. The bridge is a testament to Victorian engineering and architectural grandeur. The design upon its completion in 1894 was for accomodating road traffic and river navigation.

Raising the central sections accomodates for passing large vessels. It is a spectacle that continues captivating people during its operation. What happens in the background is a brilliant distinguishing feature of the bridge. Steam hydraulic machinery was originally powering the lifting mechanism. Electricity is now powering it.

There are high level walkways offering panoramic views of London. Anyone visiting London should not miss this experience.
