Pizza in Italy is a specialty pizza. We didn’t realize how important it was for people to know where the pizza was made – until we were in Italy.
We were in Rome when I found out about each region’s pride in making a specialty pizza. Our best knowledge of pizza came from the local pizzeria in the neighborhood. They made good pizza. For us, that was the best pizza ever. Not until we arrived in Italy. The boast of being served the best pizza in Italy was told several times over. At first, it didn’t have any meaning until we noticed that each one tasted different from the other. We were thinking that the other one tasted better than the other but never dared to speak it out loud. The pride was very palpable.
It is a specialty Italian dish. Each region has its own pizza specialty. Everyone boasts its own as the best pizza.
We felt the pride akin to the pride of boasting that one has the best pansit ever in the Philippines. Pansit is also a specialty dish that can have a lot of variations added to it.
Our happiness – we got to taste each one for each region that we visited.


Mmmm. The food, especially the pizza, is one of my favourite things about Italy.
I’m not really particular about food so finding out about the different regional pizza in Italy was a delightful experience for me.
