Pumpkins and gourds lay scattered among bales of hay and corn stalks. It is autumn. The front yard of a local church was filled with patches of autumn harvest.
Floydada, known as “pumpkin capital of USA”, is a nearby town where all the pumpkins originate. After our weekend, our quick visit to Grapefest at Grapevine, we were in West Texas for a weekend visit.
Church parishioners and non-parishioners were walking between patches of autumn harvest, admiring, looking, and trying to decide which ones to buy. I imagine that the harvest will not be used for making pies but rather for yard decorations. I see some other people who were there just to take photographs of the bountiful harvest.
We were among those people. As I was gazing at this wonderful autumn scene, I couldn’t help thinking about its significance, especially the abundance of pumpkins and gourds.
First, it represents a bountiful crop harvest for autumn, with pumpkins and gourds signifying a preparation for the coming winter.
Second, it was told that pumpkin was part of the first thanksgiving during the time of the pilgrims. It became part of their sustenance and survival.

We did buy some of the autumn harvest. Though I also doubt that it will become a pumpkin pie. Rather, I do see it as decorations for autumn and halloween.

Love all the pumpkins and gourds. It’s neat how there are so many different colours and varieties. I got some for decorative purposes as well.
