Red Admiral

A red admiral butterfly was perching on a Pride of the Madeira flower. There were three things that were unique to this photograph.

First, the Red Admiral was a very attractive pollinator with black wings, red bands, and white spots. Its wing span was around two inches which made it a medium sized pollinator. It is a migratory pollinator widely spread across North Africa, North America, Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean. It favors temperate climates and migrates north during spring and sometimes during autumn.

Second, the flower was from a medium sized flowering shrub known as Pride of the Madeira. It is native to the island of Madeira in Portugal.

Third, we found this whole scene while browsing through the Andalusian Gardens of the Kasbah of the Oudayas.

We were lucky to witness three unique things while visiting the Kasbah of the Oudayas.

  1. Butterflies almost always make good photos! The red admiral proves it. I recently did a post on the Monteverde Costa Rica Butterfly gardens. It was filled with beauties.
