A photograph of the river Seine with the Eiffel Tower at the background.
It was late in the afternoon. We were still walking the streets of Paris. The setting sun was our cue to start heading back to our hotel. The route that we chose was by the banks of the river Seine. Up ahead was the Eiffel Tower.
The afternoon crowd was gradually thinning its ranks. We were observing though that there was a crowd gathering by the base of the Eiffel Tower. It was looking like a night bazaar.

Big thick tarps or fabrics were on the ground. Trinkets, souvenirs, and other small decorative items were laid in display. Glowing imitations of the Eiffel Tower cast its pale light around . Vendors were waving the glowing items around and hawking their wares to pedestrians. It was a market scene!
Down right under the Eiffel Tower was a different scene. It was walled off by a fence. Inside, the sound of boom box booming and the smell of food cooking was overwhelming. We wanted to check out the scene but we couldn’t find our way in. Besides, we felt that we will be intruding to whatever was going on inside. We decided to keep on heading back to our hotel.
Night life by the Eiffel Tower was beginning.
