Paella and jambalaya are definitely culinary delights in the Texas food scene. The photograph was taken during a past Grapefest event in Grapevine, Texas.
Paella originated in the wetlands surrounding the city of Valencia, Spain. There are different variations of the cuisine but most consider Paella Valenciana as the “true” paella. A dish, as savory as the paella, popularized by the Hispanic population and a blessing to the people of Texas.
Jambalaya originated in Louisiana, USA as a fusion of African, French, and Spanish influences. It was the adaptation of the cuisine and substitution of ingredients that resulted to the creation of jambalaya. Similar to paella, jambalaya has different variations depending on choice of ingredients.

Travelling is a great way to try different dishes and learn about food. Did you try paella or jambalaya in Texas?
We tried the paella. It was good! We avoided the jambalaya because of allergies. We couldn’t quite compare the paella to the ones that we had in Spain. We sampled a few in Spain but it was in tourist restaurants. It may have been modified for tourists.
