We keep hearing that the best clam chowder can be found at the east coast. The American cuisine originated at the northeastern United States. There are three most prevalent variations. We had the chance to taste the New England variation.

It was a chilly day as we were walking around Bearskin Neck at Rockport, Massachusetts. We just saw motif # 1. The chill in our body made us crave for something hot to eat or drink. We had different choices: mine was coffee while the other was clam chowder. Bean & Leaf cafe was right around the corner and had both on their menu.

We found a cozy corner with a window view of Lumber Wharf. The water was calm and sparkly from the reflected sunlight. A few seagulls were within view as they lazily perched on the wharf. Their rhythmic squawks were soothing soundscape that was gently easing our minds.

It must have been our lucky day. There was only one other table that was occupied by the friendliest couple. The cafe staff were the friendliest too. We spoke with the other couple about interesting places nearby. They were only too glad to point us to Gloucester, a bigger town with more interesting places to see. The town of Rockport, Massachusetts, though small and quiet, was still a perfect place for us.
