Why Research Enhances Your Sightseeing Experience

It always pays to do some research before going on a self-guided sightseeing trip. Research saves time and effort.

Instead of wasted time getting lost, a pre-planned walking tour can take the route directly to the destination. Are you wondering what to see in a particular place? Research can be a helpful guide on what to see and its significance.

One such place that taught us this important lesson was the Inverted Pyramid of The Louvre. It was the time of naïveté of our international travels. The destination was set but we did not know what to see. We chanced upon the inverted pyramid and only said, “wow!” Nothing more. We did not know why it was there nor did we know who designed or built it.

What is the Inverted Pyramid of The Louvre?

Simply said, it is a skylight. Outside the Louvre, in Place du Louvre, the inverted base of the skylight can seen. It is structurally sound enough to hold the weight of walking pedestrians. Its tip extends down into a shopping mall, Carrousel du Louvre. It marks the intersection between two underground walkways beneath the Place du Carrousel. The inverted pyramid also orients visitors towards the expansion of the Louvre under Napoléon lll in the 1850s, Cour Napoléon.

Take time to view the Inverted Pyramid the next time that you are wandering the halls of The Louvre.

  1. I’m a big fan of trip planning and couldn’t agree more about how it’s so beneficial to do some research beforehand. I’d rather do my research in advance rather than wasting time figuring it out when I’m on holidays!

    • Everything so true! We considered it as part of the learning experience. Now it all about making the most of everything by saving on time, expense, and effort.
