We entered the small courtyard of Bahia Palace. There was the usual central fountain, the surrounding zellige tiled courtyard, the arched pillars, and the peripheral rooms. There was something different in this courtyard. It had been transformed into a showroom. Old doors and other woodworks were on display on all corners of the courtyard.
The doors were not ordinary doors. These were doors of collective granaries, known as agadir or igherm, crafted by artisans from wood. The architectural design and motif were supposed to show knowledge that were passed on from generation to generation.
Each door had a unique design. We can only imagine that each door’s purpose and design were unique to the families or businesses who were using it. It may also be the expression of the artisan who created it. We can only imagine!
Each door was looking aged, weathered, well-worn, rough, textured, and unique!

Such beautiful doors. If only they could share their stories.
Absolutely! Same thoughts. What stories would they tell?
