The Bishop’s Palace of Galveston, also known as Gresham’s Castle, was an interesting Victorian architecture in the east side of Galveston. It was big and built sturdy with stones that it survived many hurricanes. It was a private home for many years.

The Catholic Archdiocese of Galveston bought the property to serve as its headquarters. Its location was conveniently across Sacred Heart Church.

The palace is now the property of the Galveston Historical Foundation.

Our “discovery” of notable structures in east side went beyond our perception of Galveston. We always thought of Galveston as “the seawall and the beach”. Now, we know better and we think that we should explore the city better.
