Davao – The Next Destination
Davao Region was our next destination. It was interesting that we were trying to create postcard photographs from Davao but failed miserably. There was simply too much to explore and too much to see for a few postcard photographs. Davao is a broad term. There is Davao Province and there is Davao (Davao City).

Goodbye Palawan
We were entering Palawan’s airport terminal one more time. Our short stay in Palawan was ending. The Subterranean River National Park and the islands of El Nido were the only places that we had the time to visit. It was more than enough! Its natural beauty far exceeded our expectations. We were heading this time to the Davao Region.

What is Davao Province?
Davao Province is officially known as Davao Region (Region XI). It is composed of several distinct provinces: Davao del Sur, Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro (formerly Compostela Valley), and Davao Occidental. The region is in the southeastern corner of the second biggest island of the Philippines, Mindanao.

This vast province is characterized by its fertile plains. An area which is ideal for agriculture and the cultivation of a variety of fruits like durian, pomelo, rambutan, lanzones, mangosteen, bananas, and pineapples. This characteristic has earned the province the moniker “fruit basket of the Philippines”. The region also boasts natural resources like mineral deposits and rich marine life.

Davao Region covers a geography of diverse topography ranging from the highest peak in the Philippines, Mt. Apo, to the pristine beaches and coral reefs of Davao Gulf and the Pacific Ocean. It is an ideal hub for ecotourism and adventure.

Davao City is at the Heart of Davao Region
A bustling, highly urbanized and independent city that is serving as a regional center. It is not only the largest city in Mindanao but also one of the largest in the world by land area. Strict ordinances are a hallmark of the city. Ordinances, like smoking ban and firecracker ban, has been contributing to the city’s reputation as one of the safest and most orderly cities in the Philippines.

Davao City is a major trade, commerce, and industry center. There is a thriving agribusiness sector, manufacturing, and a growing IT and business process outsourcing industry.

Davao City has a diverse population. Eleven ethnic groups call Davao their home. Each ethnic group is contributing to the rich cultural tapestry of Davao. The best time to witness the rich cultural tapestry is during the celebration of Kadayawan in mid August. The Kadayawan festival is a showcase of Davao’s diverse culture and a celebration of a bountiful harvest.

Davao Region can’t be explored in one visit. We will definitely be back. The plan is to see more and photograph more of every corner of Davao Region.

Beautiful captures, especially of the palm trees at the Dahican Resort and Spa. Davao City looks appealing, especially given how it’s one of the safest cities in the Philippines. Looking forward to hearing (and seeing) more of the Davao Region.
