A photograph of the monument dedicated to the Spanish novelist playwright, and poet, Miguel de Cervantes. This was at Plaza de España in Madrid, Spain. The plaza was where we started our walking route toward the Royal Palace of Spain.
It was a quick flight on board a modern jetliner to Madrid, Spain. The feeling didn’t quite match. We felt like it was a long-haul, slow boat ride. It was either we were giddy with excitement or dizzy from the flight. Anyway, ignore the feeling and go ahead with the exploration! Plaza de España was the next place we explored after getting to the 27th floor of Hotel Riu for a panoramic view of Madrid.
Miguel de Cervantes was regarded as the first modern novelist with his book, Don Quixote.

These plazas are a fun way to learn a bit more about Spanish history and culture. We totally missed this one (or don’t remember passing by it) when we were visiting Madrid.
It’s easy to miss. It looks just like any other plaza until you get closer to the monument, read all the inscriptions, and learn what the monument represented.
