An aerial photograph of the Royal Palace of Madrid, Spain. The official residence of the royal family of Spain.
The Royal Palace of Madrid, Spain was just a short walk away from the corner of Plaza de España and Gran Via. The exact spot where we were standing before exploring the Gran Via.
Instead of going south to Gran Via, we headed west to Plaza de España, and spent some time appreciating the monument of Miguel de Cervantes. Behind the monument of Miguel de Cervantes were the statues of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza. The two were the celebrated characters of Miguel de Cervantes’ book, Don Quixote.
Templo de Debod was further west of Plaza de España. It was transported from Egypt to Spain as a gift from the Egyptian people to the Spanish people.
Heading south from Templo de Debod took us to the Royal Palace of Madrid. The King was expected to be present hence security was tight. The were military personnel present. The royal guards were on horseback and patrolling the perimeter.
