The Lady by the Roman Bath

Exploring the Roman-Built Baths and Georgian Architecture in Bath

Bath, a city in Somerset, England, was the next destination along the tour route. A city that was made famous and named after the Roman-built baths. It is a UNESCO-designated World Heritage Site.

The Neighborhood in Bath

It is a city 97 miles west of London and a little over 30 miles northwest of Stonehenge. Napping was the best thing to do while riding the tour bus. In under an hour, we were walking the local neighborhood. It was our introduction to the Georgian architecture of buildings. Quaint shops were on the ground floor while apartments and offices were occupying the upper floors.

Bath Abbey and Roman Bath

The Abbey churchyard was just a short walk around the corner. It was alive with activity. A busker was playing for the constantly moving crowd. It was here that the self-guided tour around the city started.

The Lady By The Pool

The lady in the featured image came as a surprise. She was dressed in a period costume and just started walking by the pool. it took a while to realize that she was role playing. So much like cosplay.

Georgian Architecture
Royal Crescent
Victoria Park

Walking 1 mile to the Circus and the Royal Crescent was easy after the London self-guided tour. There were a lot of buildings along the way that featured the characteristic Georgian Architecture. The Circus was a roundabout with a refreshing look. There were massive trees in the middle with its fall foliage and a shaded interior. The Royal Crescent was looking palatial with its fronting magnificent open green field and park.

River Avon

Walking back to the tour bus was by the river Avon. The same river Avon that will take us to Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare.
