The Caryatids, sculpted female figures, acting as supporting columns of the Ionic Temple of Erechtheion. The ancient temple is on the north side of Acropolis hill. It was dedicated to the goddess Athena.
One interesting fact: if the sculpted columns were male figures then it is called an Atlas. Just one small interesting trivia.

Beautiful photo – I learned something new. Until I read this post, I didn’t hadn’t really that there was a name (let along two names) for supporting pillars that are shaped like human figures.
