The City of Braga, Portugal

It was about half an hour drive from Guimarães to Braga. Braga is a city and a municipality northwest of Guimarães. Its history goes back thousands of years. Different groups of people occupied its land at some point in time and have left their influences. Religion, specifically Roman Catholicism, played a big role in its tradition and cultural heritage. It is known to have the oldest Portuguese archdiocese. There are several medieval structures worth visiting close to Braga. One of the more famous ones is the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte.

The photograph above was taken from the top of the Monumental Stairway of the Sanctuary of Dom Jesus do Monte.
