Cancun Mexico: A Family Celebration Journey

We eventually had to end our hectic trek across Montréal, Ottawa, and Quebec. Quebec City was the most hectic since we had to drive quite a distance. It was also a full day of walking that ended up with dinner at Umbrella Alley. We really got our fill of trekking for that day. The trip to the airport was bittersweet. We had to part ways with family though we did get to spend precious time with them.

Just like that, we started another trek to Cancun, Mexico. This time, it was to celebrate a special milestone of ten years for the favorite granddaughter (the only granddaughter!).

Our first time to be in Cancun, Mexico was 2018. It was also to celebrate a birthday! There might be a pattern to this! Not planned but it just fell into place.

Our port of entry was Cancun International Airport (CUN). We were entering through the same airport as back in 2018. It certainly was looking better. Custom and border agents were looking like any other border entry agents in the world. They were ready to check for eligibility to enter Mexico.

The vendors and hawkers outside the exit gate were looking the same as we remember. Each one easily identifiable by their brightly-colored outfit. Huddling together, looking, and scanning each disembarking passenger as a potential customer. All of them were vying for a piece of business from the incoming tourists.

The taxi agents were exceptional. They were occupying booths to the left of the airport’s exit gate. Their barkers were just right outside their booth, as if toeing an invisible line, and yelling out invitation to passing customers to their shop.

Our transport van finally arrived after waiting for two hours. The sky was overcast with sporadic rain. The van ride was forty minutes long. There was head-nodding from drowsiness. Someone’s head was occasionally banging on the van’s side window. It was quite tempting to let out a loud, open-mouthed yawn upon emerging at the front of the hotel. We finally reached our destination.

Thank you!
