Hassan ll Mosque of Casablanca, Morocco was completed in 1993 under the guidance of King Hassan ll of Morocco. It was ranked as the second largest mosque in Africa. It was also ranked as the thirteenth largest mosque in the world.
What was remarkable of the mosque was its towering minaret, its expansive promenade, and the fact that a third of the mosque was built over the Atlantic Ocean.
The tour bus pulled over close to the mosque’s museum and entrance. Our tour manager gave us a short introduction. Then, we were directed to head to the mosque’s museum to start our exploration of the premises.
The magnitude of the mosque was overwhelming! The corridor with traditional Moroccan pillars and arches opened up to the vast promenade. The corridor was adorned with zellige tilework. The walk towards the mosque took us a few minutes to accomplish.
We intended to enter the mosque in one of its guided tours. However, the line was around an hour long. We didn’t arrive early enough to beat the crowd. Instead, we walked around to view the exterior of the mosque.

For such a large mosque, I can’t help but wonder how long it took to build. Love your picture of the corridor. It’s too bad the line was so long. But as you said, at least you could still appreciate the exterior.
According to our tour manager, it was a fast build of seven years! The work was round the clock.
There were a lot of amazing structures around the mosque. This corridor was one. A lot of people were taking photographs of the arches but failed to see the corridor.
In most popular places, people line up to see the inside. Sometimes, we have to be creative and learn to appreciate the scenes less appreciated.
