Kasbah of the Oudayas

Kasbah of the Oudayas was a very interesting learning experience. A Kasbah is a citadel. The Oudayas was a group of people that was permanently expelled from Rabat, Morocco in the 19th century.

The Kasbah started as a Ribat (a fortified monastery) in the 10th century in an effort by one dynasty to defend the area against another dynasty. It didn’t go so well and the Ribat was replaced by several different structures until it became the Kasbah it is today. A citadel with a mosque, a museum, a garden, and living quarters for people who live in the Medina.

Random photographs of our travels. Memories found and captured in a photograph.

The Kasbah was a place of significance in Rabat, Morocco that we visited after the Mausoleum of King Mohammed V.
