Liverpool: All About The Beatles

Liverpool, UK was three hours away by tour bus after we left Stratford-Upon-Avon. We were sensing that we were close. David, our tour guide, started talking about our destination and its close association to The Beatles.

We were growing up while the rage about The Beatles was at its peak. It was all their songs on the airwaves! We were singing their songs and learning how to play their songs on our acoustic guitars.

The thing about singing and playing songs on musical instrument is that we rarely think about the background of the song. At least, not for us. We just sing, play it on musical instruments, and have fun.

Strawberry Fields Forever

David, our tour guide, was telling us stories about The Beatles and their songs. Things we didn’t know. It was fascinating!

Our first stop was 6 Beaconsfield Road, Liverpool, UK – Strawberry Field. A Salvation Army property that operated as a Children’s Home. The inspiration for the song Strawberry Fields Forever came from this place. Next, we dropped by Penny Lane – a terminus that inspired a song of the same name.

We had to check in our hotel first before we went walking around the city of Liverpool. It was early evening and the night was getting cooler.

In Mathew Street, it was hot and jumping! It was clear that Mathew Street was capitalizing well on the popularity of The Beatles. There was The Beatles theme everywhere. Inside The Cavern, the beat was strong and the crowd lively.

Singing in The Cavern

Not everything in Liverpool can be found in Mathew Street. There were a lot of other activities happening. The cultural diversity of the city has also diversified its activities. On that night, we started heading for the Pier Head. Light shows were in different parts of the Pier Head. The statue of The Beatles still stands in the midst of the pier with the Liver Building at the background.

    • He was very knowledgeable! He’s been working as a guide for the past 20 years. He’s said he also travels a lot with his wife. His next trip was going to be India after our tour.
