The day finally came that we were on our own. No more going around with a guided tour group. Today, we decided to strike it on our own and explore the nearby city of Tangier.
Touring Tangier on our own was kind of bite-in-the-cheek. We hired a guide to take us on board a train at a train station, have somebody else meet us on the other end of the train line, and drive us around to pre-determined interesting places around Tangier. We thought that it would cost as much and would be much more convenient compared to truly being on our own. It was!

The train ride itself was bad! The train left the station on time. We were able to locate our assigned seat with a little help from the train conductor.
There were some minor inconveniences. We had to remain standing in a pre-departure area before they allowed us to walk towards the train. The wait wasn’t long but the area was packed. The other minor inconvenience was that we found people sitting on our assigned seats when we arrived. We didn’t mind and found some other vacant seats. It was when more people arrived and we were asked to move from their assigned seats. It was when we found out that the people who took our seats were not even supposed to be in our train carriage!
Tangier is a city in the northwestern side of Morocco. It is a coastal city. The waters of the Atlantic ocean and the Mediterranean sea meet along its coast. It is close to the Strait of Gibraltar. The southern coast of Spain is only 20-30 minutes ride away via a fast ferry boat.
