The Shambles at night

York, UK

York was an overnight stay on the way back to London. We left Edinburgh with thoughts of returning in the future for more exploration of the fabulous city. It was barely a scratch with the short period of time that we spent in Edinburgh.

Clifford’s Tower

Clifford’s Tower was right in front of the hotel. The tower was part of a bigger castle fortification in York. The history of York and Clifford’s Tower was very much intertwined with each other. York was a fortification north of London. However, the construction of the castle ended up with destruction after each effort of rebuilding it. There wasn’t much to see with the present day Clifford’s Tower.

The evening darkness found us searching for a decent place to eat. We were meeting with old friends and the local Thai restaurant (Thai food in York, UK!!) looked promising. It was a good time to fill empty stomachs and to catch up with friends. To be fair, the food was excellent! Zaap Thai Street Food!

Little Shambles

Our evening walk in York after dinner was leading us toward a historic street. The Shambles, a market place, has existed for centuries. It was a slaughterhouse and a place for butchers to display the butchered meat. Over the centuries, The Shambles has retained its character as a slaughterhouse and a place for butcher shops despite several efforts to change it. Some of the buildings were built back in the 14th or 15th century.

Some of the photographs can be printed on canvas, print paper, or on accessories (coffee mug, yoga mat, etc.).
